HONOLULU (AP) — Maui fire officials said a stranded stand-up paddle boarder who was blown out to sea by strong winds was rescued.
The 21-year-old woman visiting from Boston was picked up by a sailboat off Lahaina on Friday afternoon.
Capt. Paul Haake said she was part of a group of six friends who rented paddleboards near the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort &Spa.
He said the other five were able to make it to shore; however, they lost sight of the woman and reported her missing about 2:30 p.m.
U.S. Coast Guard and fire officials launched a boat and helicopter search shortly after the woman was reported missing.
The Coast Guard received a call from a sailboat, saying it picked up a female paddler.
Authorities said the search ended at 3:15 p.m.
